Outsourcing: Is It Right For Your Business?
Last night, I was watching one of my favorite Netflix shows. Some of you may be familiar with the format of this show, the hosts are business developers with their own specialties, and they aim to assist restaurant owners improve the reputation, menu, and interior design of their businesses. One owner stuck out to me not because of her gorgeous location but because it is impossible not to relate to her share of struggles and predicaments.
She has been the sole owner and manager for 17 years and was able to fully transition the place from spa to restaurant. When one of the hosts discussed the online reviews she received, the pain she feels is obvious. The restaurant is her heart but claims how doing everything on her own, including the taxes and purchasing, took its toll on her. Any failed business is a sad story, but it struck a chord how this woman lost the passion she had for her business.
For the kind of help any business owner needs, cost and expertise are important consideration. This is the hallmark of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. You work with individuals and teams distributed across the globe.
Your access to excellent pool of talent is no longer constrained by boundaries but more importantly, you get them for the pricing that is comfortable and sustainable for you. The beauty of outsourcing your processes is that you allocate your time and energy on what truly matters—business development, product quality, expansion, and client relations.
As I watch the physical transformation of her restaurant, there is one question left in my mind, why did she not ask for help earlier? She could save money and double her profits had she asked for the right help at the right time. The help she needed in filing taxes could easily be found among thousands of individual accountants offering their freelance services online. Experts in customer service is one of the most popular and predominant department in existence. Freelancers who are skilled in purchasing, marketing, human resources, and general admin tasks are flourishing online as we speak.
In an alternate universe where this woman could have outsourced her needs, she could save money, take huge chunks of burden off her shoulders, and refocus on what her business needs most. This leads me to my next thought, what does she needs most now? Once the show’s crew left, the same amount of workload goes back to her alone and despite the transformations in her restaurant, she could spiral back to her former problems. I wish for anyone close to her to lead her to the business outsourcing industries that could support her. More than anything, I wish to see her back on her feet and for her business to go back to its heyday.
